Why USA’s Gymnastics Team Wins the Gold Medal for Personal Branding
USA Gymnastics is always a fan favorite, especially at this year’s Olympics. We all wish we could have their flexibility, strength, and stylish uniforms (The Zoe Report noted that Team USA has the most expensive uniforms of all time) and work with the GOAT, Simone Biles. As I watched over the past few weeks, I realized they deserve the gold for their personal branding. Branding is more than just wearing your team colors; it’s being relatable and connecting with people to get more views to sell a product. These girls always stick to this landing by being themselves on and off the mat.
They’ve Proved They’re Resilient
Team USA made so many comebacks during this year’s Olympic games. Simone Biles competed again after dropping out of the Tokyo Olympics for mental health reasons, and Suni Lee competed again after battling two kidney diseases ( my favorite comeback story). Jade Carey continued to compete this year after getting sick and falling during her floor routine. Jordan Chiles continued to compete this year after not qualifying for medals, and their resilience combined led to a gold medal for the team. The moral of the story: never give up! 💫
They Cheer on Their Competition
Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles showed the world what it means to be a good sport on and off the podium. Simone and Jordan bowing to Rebecca Andrade as she’s holding her first gold medal shows what the Olympics are all about. Different countries and people with different backgrounds can support each other. After she got off the podium, Simone said, "I have so much respect for her. She's such a good competitor," She keeps me on my toes. It’s an honor to get to compete with her."
They Showed What it Means to be a Teammate and Even Better Friend
Unfortunately, it was announced that Jordan Chiles had to return her bronze medal. 💔 I can’t imagine what this must feel like. Jordan gets a gold medal for how she’s been handling this. As hard as this is, it’s teaching us two lessons: Be a good teammate and, most of all, an even better friend. The girls cheered each other on even if they were competing against each other, and their social media posts showed that they had her back no matter what.
So, if you're wondering how to build your brand, learn from Team USA and realize it’s about what’s on the inside first. Be a good person: a good boss, co-worker, and friend, and then you can focus on the outside. Congrats, Team USA! Keep going for gold! 🥇
